Well, we’re back in Richmond after great couple of days in Detroit. Detroit is an interesting city and we had a fantastic time exploring. A definite highlight for me was experiencing a genuine American Shopping Mall (The Sommerset Collection)! But with stores like Prada, Gucci and Sax on 5th Avenue it was definitely more of a window-shopping excursion than anything else! We stayed at the Hilton Inn and it was STUNNING! On Saturday morning we were off to the Detroit Science Centre where I experienced my first IMAX adventure (this one was on the marvelous world of bugs!) We saw the Seven Wonders of the Universe at the Planetarium and spent hours wandering around the exhibits of mirrors, magnets, robotics and other fun ‘experiments’.
We’re enjoying Richmond. It’s a rural, quiet little town with friendly, gentle people and beautiful surroundings. It’s situated in a great place for us South African adventurers, a few hours away from cities like Detroit, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Dayton and Chicago. Speaking of Chicago, we’re off to visit Adam and Lindy with Neale and Graham this weekend. I’ll be going to my first ever baseball game. My plan is to shout loud for the White Sox and to eat a hotdog at the ballgame (that sounds to me like the epitome of American living!) I’m really looking forward to shopping in Chicago and it’s a goal of ours to spend a couple of hours in a Barnes and Noble while we’re over here.
Craig and I were late for church on Sunday and so my quick-thinking husband changed directions and took us to explore Richmond’s beautiful Rose Garden in the Glenn Miller Park. We had church; God, Craig and me, among the roses. It was so beautiful and they are proper garden roses with the full, ripe fragrance that makes roses truly beautiful.
Sunday afternoon Wayne and Sam (Craig’s colleague and his wife who we stayed with when we arrived) picked us up and we went to the Civic Theatre to see the production of Oliver. It was amateur theatre but it was so precious! The characters were really well cast and the music is fantastic! Then we were off to an early dinner at the Red Lobster. Ooohh! I still feel full! What a feast!
Well, we’ll be back soon with an update of our adventures in Chicago. ‘Til then, take care and have fun!
