Diary of 2 Travelers
It was early Friday moring (about 8:30am) that Heath and I packed out cars and started down the Garden Route on our way to the Fairest of Capes. The weather was nicely overcast, making it a very pleasant (although little cold) drive. After a brief stop at Storms River Petroport, for a coffee and toated sandwich, we were winding our way through Plett, Knysna, Sedgefield and Wilderness on our way to George. Anyone who hasn't driven that route recently be warned: the roadworks and lack of speedlimits is is nightmare. But Heath lead us though excellently and we got to George in time for lunch.
After droping our stuff at friends (who kindly lend us their home for the night), we dashed off to the shops. As we arrive back, the clutch on Heath's car sticks to the floor and we car decides "I ain't getting into gear for you!" and stalls. The clutch seemed well and truley dead, so we managed to push the car into the drive and close the electric gate behind us.
It's great to be part of a church family, because there are always people that you can phone! We contacted a friend of a friend in George who tried to track down a machanic for us. In the meanwhile, Heath and I tried to stay warm on a bitterly cold night, wrapping ourselves up warm with Debonairs pizza and HOT coffee!
Saturday morning arrived with news that the mechanic was on his way. After a quick overview of the problem, the offending hydrolic pipe was removed, a replacement found and we were happily on our way. (A quick interlude to thank all in george who were so friendly and willing to help :D )
Leaving George at about 12:00, we expected to arrive in Cape Town at about 4, but mother nature had other plans. Cape Town decided to welcome us with open arms, and open rain clouds! From just before Mosselbay right into Cape Town it poured!. Once again, my wife did me proud, leading us on our adventure down the N2. The worst hit us as we were climbing hoehoek pass, but we made it to the other side and even caught a few glimpses of The Mountain on our was down Sir Louwries Pass.
Chris and Crystal (and family) welcomed us with open arms and it really feels like being at home (better than home becuase the dishwasher does the dishes, not me :p ).
Heath and I are looking forward to exploring Pinelands, Durbanville and the Nothern Suburbs during this week, and enjoy a few days off before I start the new job!
If only it would warm up a little...
